Eye-witness accounts from the front lines of our times: their political and social impact
2012, May 16 19:00-21:00 Upper Stage
The event is part of the Cycle
Literature: people’s stories
How are the unique, personal stories recorded of people who experienced at first hand events that shook Europe to its core in the late 20th century? Why are they worth preserving, and who are their accounts aimed at? What impact do these testimonies have on the already battle-scarred social body that brought them forth? And what resonance might they ultimately have?
The “Literature: people’s stories” cycle seeks to shed light on individual life stories which, having acquired a mythic dimension by being set down on paper in book form, can go so far as to influence a nation’s cultural, social and even political life.
Speakers:
Slavenka Drakulić: Writer (They Would Never Hurt a Fly: War Criminals on Trial in The Hague, 2004)
Anna Funder: Author (Stasiland: Stories from Behind the Berlin Wall, 2003)

Speaker - Co-ordinator:
Panos Haritos: Journalist

Entrance to all the events in the “Talks and Thoughts” Cycle is free and on a strictly first come, first served basis.
