A veteran of the avant-garde scene in Greece and beyond, Floros Floridis
' career covers a great deal of ground in both contemporary music and free improvisation. From the historic double-album Improvising at Barako's
he recorded with Sakis Papadimitriou in 1979 to his collaborations in Berlin and elsewhere over the last decade with musicians including Αkira Ando, Günter “Baby” Sommer, Michael Griener, Jan Roder, Olaf Rupp and Chris Dahlgren, Floridis has never stopped experimenting and blazing new trails in contemporary European music.
His collaboration with the great Nicky Skopelitis and Okay Temiz was a special moment in his career, and he has never had any qualms about imbuing his free improvisations with a Greek / Balkan feel and aesthetic.
He is coming to the 4th Greek Jazz Panorama with the equally experienced Paul Lytton
and Phil Wachsmann
. The drummer Paul Lytton is a typical exponent of the English free jazz scene with a host of recordings to his name with ECM both as a duo with the saxophonist Evan Parker and a trio with the addition of the bassist Barry Guy. The violinist Phil Wachsmann, who grew up in Uganda, has recorded with both Evan Parker and Roscoe Mitchell; a free jazz virtuoso, he is also extremely well versed in classical music.
