I think outside the box | 4-8 July
Terraforming Project | 11-15 July

Summer is here, at the OCC! Come with us in order to save the planet and enjoy ourselves with the power of 3D technology.
Cost: 60 € (for each workshop)
I think outside the box - Young inventors, big ideas
4-8 July 2016 | 10:00-14:00
What happens when kids think out of the box and combine their creativity with technology?
Working as a team, the children will make a Rube Goldberg Machine, a deliberately complex chain reaction device, incorporating elements of robotics, simple machines and 3D design and construction. The goal is for the young participants to successfully implement a simple function of their own collective choice—lighting a lamp, for example, though it could really be anything—in a unique way.
As they set about designing their own series of chains actions and reactions, the kids will be initiated into the world of microprocessors, sensors, electric motors, 3D design and printing, coding and digital sound.
This worshop was designed to elicit innovative, analytical, open thinking from children aged 8-12 and to encourage the participants to work as a team, to express and communicate their ideas, to build working prototypes and to creatively combine art and technology.
Workshop leader:
Antonis Kanouras: Robotics engineer - Founder of Robotixlab
Addressed to: Children aged 8-12
Cost: 60 € (for the cycle of five sessions)

Terraforming Project: Escaping to another planet, an extraterrestrial workshop
11-15 July 2016 | 10:00-14:00
In this workshop, the young participants construct and program robotic devices and design and create three-dimensional components with the help of a 3D printer.
This is how our story goes: the planet Earth is threatened with ecological disaster by man and his way of life. Research into the possibility of moving to another planet begins: it’s called the Terraforming Project. We are looking for water, oxygen and fertile soil for cultivation.
The spaceport, analytical laboratories, telecommunications tower and power plant are already in place and our research is progressing. But then a stellar storm damages numerous systems, which have to be repaired. Which is where the kids spring into action.
Conducting missions in space and repairing the telecommunications tower are just some of the challenges the children will have to overcome with their team. Will they succeed in becoming Master Roboticists of the Onassis Foundation and bring the trophy back to earth with them?

Both S.T.E.A.M. Programmes are underpinned by the theory of creative and experiential learning which states that children learn through making and experimenting. The workshops build on characteristics which nature has endowed on this age-group: curiosity and a playful approach to situations.
The programmes use platforms including Ototo, Makey—Makey, Littlebits, Lego Mindstorms Education, Ultimaker 3D Printer and Makedo, which will help familiarize the children familiar with technology, design and prototyping.
