Wishing to create works for children, since 2011 the Hellenic Project has commissioned the composition of new works of large-scale symphonic form, such as symphonic works, music tales for narrator and string or symphonic orchestra, cycles of songs for voice and small orchestral ensemble. In the last five years the following works have been composed: Aesop’s Fables by Dimitris Papadimitriou and Eight Musical Tales for Narrator and Orchestra by composers Achilles Guastor, Kostas Kritsotakis, Nefeli Liouta, Dimitras Trypanis, and Tassos Rossopoulos.
This year it is the turn of the "Greek Song" cycle to meet the need of creating new works for children. In this context, we will work with young composers, who have been distinguished in the "Greek Song Writing Competition", to create new songs for children. Drawing on myths from Greece and from all over the world, on special, wonderful, and unique stories and imaginary creatures, an anthology of at least twenty new songs will be created. Working with young people as well as the composition of songs for children, are both crucial to our wish to support fresh talent and to create musical works of the outmost artistic quality of this genre. The songs will be presented in two concerts with a narrator and an orchestral ensemble of rich musical sound.
