Stephen King may have had his reservations about The Shining (1980), but Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation will always remain both an extremely scary movie and one of the best screen adaptations of the author’s work. A stellar example of psychological horror, it quickly established itself as a classic—the shot of Jack Nicholson’s crazed face leering through the hole he’s just hacked in a door is iconic.
Bridging the gap between 1980—when the film first hit an unsuspecting public—and 2016, the film that would bring Stanley Kubrick closer to the horror of conservative America and even deeper into the labyrinth of a tortured mind was released this year with 24 minutes of cut footage which had never before been screened in a European auditorium.
Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining will be shown at the Onassis Cultural Centre in all its 144-minute glory, bearing out the brand new trailer’s claim that this movie “demands to be seen on the big screen".
The screening of The Shining will be followed by a themed party at an Athenian hotel.
