"What was emerging at that point in time was not the Europe of nations; it was the Europe of kings", wrote the great poet, novelist and visionary of a United Europe, Victor Hugo, in the mid-19th century. Sophia Marathaki has used Hugo's Hymn to a United Europe to create a performance about utopia and the reality of Europe in the era of humanism.
Marathaki asks "What is Europe?", but also "What could Europe be?" if the revolution of 1789 and those that followed had achieved their goal.
