Music Connects the OCC and the Panteion University, Vol. 3

JAN-FEB 2018
20:30

Panteion University
For the third time, the music bridge over Syngrou Avenue connects the OCC and Panteion University with three concerts which daringly spotlight both unusual instrumental combinations and contemporary Greek compositions.
For the third consecutive year, the OCC and Panteion University build "a music bridge over Syngrou Avenue" and share their interest in contemporary culture and the sounds of our era. Supported by the OCC's know-how and networking, the students studying “Culture and Cultural Management” in Panteion’s Department of Communication, Media and Culture have undertaken to promote the concert series in close collaboration with the musicians. The programme has been co-curated by the two institutions.

The concerts in this year's season focus on unusual combinations of instruments and contemporary Greek composition. They feature: a double bass centre stage in an international compositional panorama; a violin-cello-bayan trio which will transport us into uniquely Slavic territory, and four musicians "from the edge of the world" performing works for saxophone quartet by Greek composers from different generations. New works were written for the series by Kornelios Selamsis, with one eye fixed on Xenakis' emblematic Theraps, and by Thanasis Deligiannis.

The Greek premières of works by George Apergis and Stratis Minakakis will be performed alongside repertoire works by Michalis Adamis and George Koumentakis. Finally, Nikos Stavropoulos' Topophilia provides the stimulus for a discussion on the dialogue between composers active today and the work of Iannis Xenakis.
