The Sun Ra Arkestra
was a prolific musical collective whose creativity never seemed to run dry. They set out to explore the full length and breadth of jazz through polyrhythm and improvisation and it was the first jazz orchestra that used electronic keyboards, an electric bass and two double basses.Together with the Arkestra, Sun Ra contributed to the Afro-American cultural and political awakening of the 1960s, stressing the African roots of jazz, inspiring pride in black history, and declaring the spiritual and mystic dimensions of his music. He did all this having renounced his birth identity and adopted a mythic, ironic persona who had travelled to Earth from Saturn, which simultaneously places him among the forerunners of Afrofuturism. sunraarkestra.com
is an electronic music act from Detroit which has been active since 1995, and whose main member is Gerald Donald. While the musical style and the act's image changed radically during a non-release period from 1999 to 2003, two steady characteristics are the display of a thematic affiliation with science and the obvious use of pseudonyms and the hence rumoured but unconfirmed identities of the members. The main member is producer/artist Gerald Donald, also one half of the band Drexciya (with James Stinson). Another member is To Nhan Le Thi. The group released a compilation album, Gesamtkunstwerk
, in 1999, and were inactive until 2003; since then three albums were released.
Darren J. Cunningham is a British electronic musician, best known under the pseudonym Actress
. His music has been released by a variety of different recording labels, which most prominently include Ninja Tune, Honest Jon's Records, Nonplus Records, and Werkdiscs, a label he co-founded in 2004. http://whoisactress.com
Black Quantum Futurism
(or BQF) is a new approach to living and experiencing reality by way of the manipulation of space-time in order to see into possible futures. This vision and practice derives its facets, tenets, and qualities from quantum physics, futurist traditions, and Black/African cultural traditions of consciousness, time, and space. Within the space where these three traditions intersect exists a creative plane that allows for the ability of African-descended people to see "into", choose, or create the impending future. Featuring visions by Rasheedah Phillips, Moor Mother Goddess, Warren C. Longmire, Almah Lavon, Joy Kmt, Thomas Stanley and Nikitah Okembe-RA Imani.
The Greek collective ATH KIDS
was founded in 2015 by Valentin Rivera and Kareem Kalokoh. The collective depicts the Athenian underground culture from their point of view. A collective consisting of songwriters, producers, dj's, photographers and filmmakers that portrays the city from a different perspective, the grunginess and urban lifestyle often not shown by the mainstream. youtube.com/channel/UC0DfO4qf__nI0B9ruH8MR5Q
or Moor Mother Goddess is an experimental music project by Camae Ayewa, a musician and poet from Philadelphia, United States. Her work has been labelled "hardcore poetry," "power electronics," "slaveship punk," and "protest music." Ayewa herself resists categorization, preferring to self-identify through terms such as "time traveller" and "truth teller." A self-described Afrofuturist, she uses spacetime-bending sound and lyricism to reformulate concepts of memory, history, and the future in an afrocentric or afrodiasporic tradition. moormothergoddess.bandcamp.com

is the alias of Melika Ngombe Kolongo, an artist raised in Belgium and now living in London. She's a producer, DJ and co-founder of NON Records, a collective of African artists and of the diaspora, using sound as their primary media, to articulate the visible and invisible structures that create binaries in society, and in turn distribute power. She's also a regular at the Endless club night, playing an exciting mix of fast-paced music that draws from many influences (from central and west African club tracks to gabber and doomcore. While producing her own tracks, she goes for a heavily layered, relentless sound, often playing with collective memory. non.com.co
