1. Open Call: Koumaria Residency 2018

Are you a musician, composer, video artist, designer or a dancer? Are you someone who designs, builds and/or employs new interfaces or preexisting interfaces in innovative ways, or a performer who is excited by the prospect of working with new interfaces, or becoming one? If your answer is positive and you are interested in a ten-day experimental artist residency in Sellasia, Greece send your application now.

The Οnassis Cultural Centre-Athens is supporting for the 2nd year the Koumaria Residency by Medea Electronique within the framework of the Interfaces Project and invites applications from artists excited by the idea of collaborative artistic creation, grounded in an improvisatory spirit and practice. New-media artists from all over the world, inspired by the Greek natural landscape, come together to create a multicultural and cross-media ‘dialogue’ culminating in a collective presentation both locally and in Athens at the end of the residency. The residency will take place on 22/10/2018-31/10/2018.

Koumaria Residency
Since 2009 the artist collective Medea Electronique has organized an annual 10-day experimental artist residency, Koumaria, near Sparta in Greece (the village of Sellasia), focusing on improvisation and new media practices. Past residents have formed lasting friendships and new artistic partnerships.

This Year’s Theme: Interfaces
This year Koumaria residency celebrates its tenth anniversary. On the occasion of the partnership with Interfaces Network, the theme for this year’s residency is INTERFACES:
What is an interface?
When is an instrument an interface/an interface an instrument?
How does the structure of an interface determine the structure of the art it is used to produce?
When is a performer an interface?
Can a whole performance be an interface?

Residents will also have the opportunity to employ the interfaces used as part of the content for Rhizomes III soundwalk app, created in association with ZKM and the Onassis Cultural Centre Athens, dedicated to the landscape surrounding the residency site.
Date: 22/10-31/10 (10 days)
 Location: Sellasia, Greece
