The "Junior Robinson Crusoes" of the ELEPAP Rehabilitation Centre for People with Disabilities... at sea
Primary-school children with or without disabilities discover the art of sailing
For mixed groups of primary school children with and without physical disabilities from the ELEPAP (Rehabilitation for The Disabled)
"Haul up the mainsail", as the primary school pupils who have the opportunity to board a sailboat and learn the secrets of seamanship will soon be shouting. So what are the tiller, the jib and the mainsail? If the captain tells you to go to the stern asap, will you run forwards or backwards? Do you want to find out? Then become a Junior Robinson Crusoe
Sailing is a world of its own and a way of coming into even closer contact with the sea. Our rich maritime heritage and Greece's primacy in world shipping show just how much we Greeks love navigating the waves.
This year, the Palaio Faliro Sailing Club will be hosting the "Junior Robinson Crusoes", meaning all you primary school kids with or without disabilities who want to board a real sailboat and experience sailing for yourselves.
Our boats are waiting for you and we've come up with all sorts of clever games and activities that will definitely pique your interest and teach you new skills. You'll learn about the winds and sailors' knots, about the different parts of a boat and how to steer. But you'll also gain insights into life at sea: everything from how sailors decide what course to set to what supplies they take aboard for long voyages and what they eat when there's a gale blowing and no land in sight.
