Over the last quarter of a century, the Klangforum Wien, a variable instrumental ensemble, has made history with over 500 world premieres of contemporary musical works, a series of international awards and distinctions, an extensive discography and regular appearances in some of the world’s greatest concert halls and most important contemporary music festivals making it one of the leading ensembles of its type. The Klangforum Wien has always prioritized the exploration of the techniques and expressive possibilities of musical instruments, which has led to the emergence of a new generation of musical performers, but also of composers with whom they collaborate. In 2009, the ensemble as a whole was awarded an honorary professorship by the University of Music and Performing Arts, Graz. A sizeable portion of the ensemble’s repertoire consists of instrumental works by Aperghis. All the pieces in this concert were written since 2006, and focus on the relationship between different sonic forces which sometimes tend towards harmony and sometimes towards conflict. Seesaw (2010) was commissioned for the ensemble's 25th anniversary celebrations.
