K. Bhta’s wanderings through the polychrome world of the great Manos Hadjidakis conjure up a mercurial universe of sounds and images. Talking about the work, which was four years in production, K. Bhta has said: “I was less interested in making cover versions than I was in scraping away surfaces, in creating musical walls and mannerisms, in isolating the raw material and placing it in unfamiliar surroundings”.
In its live version, the work is an audiovisual spectacle in which the video art designed and directed by Giorgos Theonas is integral to the music it accompanies: together, music and images in which realistic footage is combined with animation form landscapes reflecting the existential quests of contemporary Man.
“We could call Transformations a reading of Manos Hadjidakis’ work. I imagined it as a journey through a contemporary European cityscape”, the work’s creator notes. “It isn’t my work; it’s a workshop with Hadjidakis and me”.
The work was commissioned for the Synch Festival 2006, and was premiered in the atrium of the Benaki Museum.
