On Saturdays, 24 & 31 March and 7 April 2012
A dance and movement session that’s also a science fiction workshop! The setting: the city one hundred years from now, after disaster has struck!
The workshop is about codes of movement which are already the chosen mode of expression in today’s metropolises: parcour, street-dance and hip hop. Having studied these contemporary modes of bodily expression, the group will brainstorm the kinesiological behaviours which could have evolved in our imagined city of a century hence.
How do we envision the city of the future? What needs for personal expression might our imaginary metropolis have given rise to? How might our disaster scenario mould the collective movements of a group, a gang, a bunch of friends? Can I use my body as a weapon of expression? To what extent does my personal energy affect the power of the group? And, finally, do the people in my city of the imagination dance more than I do?
creditsThe workshop will be led by the Aerites dance company.
