Workshop with Bart Baele (BERLIN theatre company)
Saturday 3 May 2014
Rehearsal Room -3
Founding BERLIN in 2003, artistic directors Bart Baele and Yves Degryse decided not to decide on a particular genre, but to venture into the documentary realm and let the site where each foray took them guide their inspiration. This philosophy resulted into two project cycles: Holocene (the current geological era) where the starting point is always located in a city or a region somewhere around the globe, and Horror Vacui (fear of emptiness) in which remarkable true stories are delicately disentangled in a table-setting.
BERLIN’s theatrical projects cover many different artistic and academic areas, both in content and in form. BERLIN incorporates documentary/film, scenographical and musical elements that unfold over a multi-screened setting. The company shows works in different circuits: from theatres to exhibition spaces, to festivals and special locations.
In a discussion-based workshop Bart Baele will focus on these elements.
