Festival of contemporary music

14-20 February 2013
Since it opened its doors to the public, the OCC has assigned especial emphasis to the music of our times. Works by historic figures like Iannis Xenakis and Anestis Logothetis, important contemporary composers like George Aperghis and Giorgos Koumendakis, exceptional ensembles like the Klangforum Wien, dissonArt and the IRCAM electro-acoustic music studio and many others have delivered the exciting sounds of our era to audiences with immediacy and power.
Contemporary music is even more central to our 2012-2013 season, when it is given its own festival alongside the Greek Jazz Panorama and Borderline.
This first festival of contemporary music will showcase a wide range of contemporary trends in European music, from the eclectic, almost rock programme of the dynamic young Greek ensemble, ARTéfacts, to the electro-pianistic experimentation of Minas Borboudakis and Felix Dreher, and from 2e2m, one of Europe’s most important contemporary music ensembles, to the spectral world of Pierre Roullier. In addition some of the early electronic works of the composer Michael Adamis will be live performed and there will be a screening of the documentary Naked Hands about the conductor Dimitri Mitropoulos.
